The Book Table – 1045 Lake St. Oak Park
The store, which labels itself as “Fiercely Independent Since 2003,” is on the main drag on Lake Street, across the street from the historic Lake Theater. It immediately had a warm and welcoming feel when we entered. The set up is a bit of a maze, but in the best way, leading you through the stacks with eye-catching displays and cool stuff everywhere.
One of our favorite aspects was the wealth of staff recs throughout the entire place, something independents continue to excel at over chain bookstores.
They also have an excellent local interest section as well as a quality selection of used/rare books. My favorite find, however, was the free book plates that were just in a cardboard box on the floor near the front doors. (Look everywhere – you’ll keep finding cool stuff!)
