Anyone else love the local history books put out by Arcadia Publishing & The History Press? Whenever I move somewhere new I like to dive into these in order to feel more connected to my new surroundings. With my recently acquired Chicago Public Library card I was able to easily request titles on Rogers Park, Uptown & Edgewater, and Slovaks of Chicagoland.

For those unfamiliar, the company puts out titles dealing with local history all across the country. Their Images of America series weaves a narrative using great photos, both of major events/landmarks, as well as capturing everyday life. They also have more in-depth books as well. There are many related to Chicago and the Chicagoland area (a search on their website yielded 235 results), all of which I’d like to eventually read!
