Heirloom Books – 6239 N. Clark St.

Every morning on my way to work I would pass Heirloom Books on Clark Street in Edgewater and say “I need to go in there sometime.” We finally made it and I’m glad we did – it’s a charming, winding used bookstore packed with great stuff.

Stopping first next door at Helix Cafe for coffee (they serve Dollop, which is pretty tasty), we entered Heirloom and met the owner, Chelsea, who is super friendly and inviting, and answered all our questions.

The place is two floors, with the basement full of more books. There’s a good deal of classics and lit mags, as well as a large Hemingway section (all my favorite things!) Be sure to go when you can take your time and look around, it’s a great place to hunt for treasure!

Also, I love their description on Facebook – “A used book store should cherish the growth of book-reading, one page at a time. Chicago book stores are heirlooms to our city, thus our name.”
