Kibbitznest

Kibbitznest – 2212 N. Clybourn

Simply put, Kibbitznest is one of the coolest places that we’ve inadvertently stumbled on. While out and about the other day we weren’t ready to go home yet so I was scanned Google Maps for somewhere to go. After looking at a couple places Kibbitznest in Lincoln Park popped up. The listing made it look like just a hip bar/bookstore (which is not a bad thing!) but it turned out to be much more and anyone interested in books and community should check it out.

In its brochure, Kibbitznest bills itself as “a registered 501(c)3 nonprofit organization and wifi-free zone dedicated to the preservation of quality face-to-face human communication.” In our current times, I’m not sure there’s a higher goal. As someone who works in the service industry, it’s appalling how many people think it’s okay to order coffee while texting, Facetiming, or wearing giant noise cancelling headphones that block out the world. (Or all three. Believe me, I’ve seen it. Numerous times.) Kibbitznest is a welcome alternative to that nonsense. They have a wide array of games and tools to facilitate communication, and put on a large number of liberal arts related events.

Great for a first date, place to bring out of town visitors to, or just a place to hang out and make contact with other humans without a screen. Highly recommended!
